The Music Department provides many
opportunities for student to excel in and develop their
musical abilities. Fall Choir, Traveling Choir, Choraliers,
Band, and Private Music Lessons are offered at HLA.
The Fall Choir
includes an unlimited number of students regardless of
experience. This “mass” choir sings during Homecoming &
Parents Weekends,
occasional morning services at Bethel
Lutheran Church, and at our Annual Christmas Concert, held
at the beginning of December.
Tryouts for the thirty-eight member
Traveling Choir are held at the end of the first semester of
school. This choir will primarily prepare for a Spring tour.
The traveling choir tours over the Easter break every other
year (for 2 1/2 weeks) and for a shorter trip on opposite
years.
The Choraliers is a small, select
ensemble that is chosen not only for musical talent, but for
their desire to be a part of ministry to God’s people. They
minister at area churches, special events, the Annual
Christmas Concert and at other special school programs. In
addition, this group travels on an extended tour following
Graduation Weekend.
Hillcrest also has several types of
Bands. The Concert Band plays at special events
including the
Annual Christmas Concert and at Graduation. In addition,
they alternate on an extended tour with the Traveling Choir.
The length of the tour depends on which group is scheduled.
The Jazz Ensemble takes the best of the interested
instrumentalists and develops their ability to play a more
improvisational style of music. The Pep Band plays at home
games and contributes to the great school spirit at HLA.
Students may also receive Private
Music Lessons for academic credit. They may choose from
piano, voice or instrumental lessons.
In addition, many of our students
compete in and win awards at Regional and State Competitions
and are selected to be part of All-State choirs and bands. |
