The desire of each faculty member at
Hillcrest is that each student has the opportunity to learn
of God's greatness and personally know of His great plan of
salvation through Jesus Christ. Each student daily
studies the Word of God in Bible classes that are a part of
every students class requirements each semester. Chapel
is a part of students lives each week. A 40 minute chapel is held
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The Office of campus
ministries creates a schedule that gives students the
opportunity to hear from many different individuals and
ministries.
Faculty
members, area pastors, and other outside speakers share the
Gospel in these services. Every other week the Hillcrest Praise
Team will lead the student body in a time of praise to our
Heavenly Father. Chapel times often concentrate and
focus the student body to look and see the great mission of
the church and the student body can be active in sharing and
giving toward the great commission.
Quiet Times are scheduled at the
end of a
typical day of a dormitory student. Our young people are
challenged to spend a few minutes each day reading God’s
Word. We believe in a healthy devotional life for our
students and we pray that they will make good use of the
time given to them.
Classroom Devotions are a natural
part of each class. Hillcrest teachers have a chance
to discuss how the Lord has been working in their lives.
Each teacher is also encouraged to incorporate into their
lesson plans how God's Word is validated through mathematics,
science, and the study of social science.
Senior Peer Ministry gives
students a chance to be part of
a weekly small-group meeting
led by seniors. This program is a training ground in
which students learn to listen to the needs of their peers and lead them to God's Word for direction and guidance.
The Peer Ministers also help to plan chapels, spiritual
emphasis times and prayer days throughout the year.
Mission and Outreach is another
important component for the spiritual development of the
students at Hillcrest. Each student will have the
opportunity to be involved with an outreach beyond the walls
of Hillcrest. The Hillcrest Mexico outreach gives
seniors an opportunity to serve, give and articulate the
Gospel in a cross-cultural setting. The students will
present the Gospel, conduct VBS and sports clinics, build
churches, and feed and visit orphans and those in need.
Another outreach allows for juniors to be involved with a
ministry that is working to revitalize an inner city
neighborhood in St. Louis with construction and the Gospel
presentation. The sophomores and freshmen are able to
help with local outreach ministries in the Fergus Falls area
throughout the year. The model for the Hillcrest
outreach comes from the Scripture that you will be my
witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and to the ends of
the earth. Our students are to use the gifts, talents,
and resources they have to share and bring others the saving
message of the death and resurrection of Christ.
Prayer Day is a day in which
regular classroom schedules are put aside in order to spend the
morning in prayer together. The time together involves
personal reflection of sin and repentance, thankfulness for
the forgiveness that is offered through Jesus Christ, and a
time to seek the Holy Spirit's guidance regarding the
mission that he has for the church and for His filling to
empower the student body for action. Prayer is also an
emphasis not only during prayer day but throughout the day
for each Hillcrest student. |
