Resident Life Assistant

Job Summary

The Resident Life Assistant supports the Resident Life Lead and provides a safe living and social environment for each individual student and as a corporate group. The position is involved in the overall ministry of caring for resident students who choose to live on-campus.

Position Requirements

  • Reflect the purpose of the school; honoring Christ in your interaction with students, parents, and employees

  • Offer assistance to students in the following areas: academics, spirituality, socially, emotionally, and other possible areas of need

  • Provide a safe living and social environment for each individual student and as a corporate group

  • Be involved in the overall ministry of caring for resident students 

  • Assist in managing and overseeing the Student Union facility; ensure maintenance and upkeep of the building and student spaces are clean and safe

  • Coordinate and lead resident student activities as assigned by the Resident Life Lead

  • Provide a rich “dormitory” style living experience through safety, structure, mentorship, activities, and supporting all facets of school life

  • Answer phone calls and take detailed messages

  • Be a liaison between students, parents, and administration; answer basic questions pertaining to the resident life services provided by the school, its mission and vision, and its rules and regulations

  • Provide direction and understanding for students in the following areas: social boundaries, school policies and practices, and appropriate citizenship

  • Assist with any disciplinary actions, as needed; record incidents in SIS System

  • Check-in visitors; ensure safety procedures are followed

  • Assist with transportation needs; upon authorized certification of using school vehicles

  • Maintain a clean and well-ordered workspace

  • Follow Matthew 18 principles regarding questions, concerns, or problems

  • Perform other related and non-related tasks as assigned

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills with strong constituency building skill; able to interact with students and families from various backgrounds

  • Action and results oriented, self-starter, self-directed, and self-motivated with an entrepreneurial quality; able to work without daily oversight

  • Confident, enthusiastic, and capable

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the school’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Hillcrest Lutheran Academy

  • Able to manage necessary software and database

 Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One or more years of youth or young adult ministry work is preferred

  • Previous experience with Google Apps and Microsoft Office is preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Walking, standing, and sitting throughout the day

  • Able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally

  • Able to move safely over various terrain, between buildings, up/down stairs
