Comets Soar in First Test of Section Playoffs
The Comets won in their Section 6A play-in game against the Henning Hornets with a confident 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-9, 25-17) on their home court. Hillcrest made a solid statement to start their postseason run, led by a team-wide effort that showcased talent and determination.
Emily Adams dominated both sides of the ball with eight kills, seven digs, four set assists, three blocks, and five aces, showing her versatility and leadership. Ruby Peterson was critical in orchestrating the Comets' offense, dishing out 22 set assists to accompany her four kills and 13 digs. Ella Knutson delivered a balanced performance with six kills, ten digs, and two aces, while Kenzie Miller led at the net with nine kills and four blocks, overpowering Henning's front line.
Chloe Walkup was flawless from the service line, going 12 for 12 and adding six digs to her stat line. The win was a well-rounded team performance that left no room for Henning to recover.
“We had a solid start to the postseason tonight, and it was even sweeter on our home court,” said Head Coach Debi Foss. “I’m proud of the focus we had tonight and look forward to the next step in the playoffs. Even though the Henning Hornets are young, they played well against us and fought until the very end. It will be fun to see them develop in the next couple of years.”
The Comets will now focus on their next playoff matchup, which takes place this Friday at 7 p.m. at Hillcrest. With momentum on their side and a hunger for more postseason success, the Comets are determined to keep soaring toward their ultimate goal.
