Comets All Smiles in Big Win at Brandon-Evansville
The Hillcrest Comets took the court with focused determination. They left the court beaming with satisfaction as a dominating first-half effort set the tone for a disciplined and unified performance. After racing out to a 47-17 halftime lead in Brandon-Evansville, the Comets never looked back, cruising to a 76-46 victory, showcasing their growing chemistry and commitment to the team’s shared vision.
Hillcrest’s defensive intensity rattled the Charger’s offense from the opening whistle, turning pressure into quick transition opportunities. “The girls came out strong, and our defensive pressure led to some high percentage shots in transition,” said head coach Hannah Clark. “We were very balanced in our scoring tonight, and I thought the girls did a good job moving the ball and finding the open player.”
A host of contributors fueled the Comets’ offense. Elin Retzlaff delivered a standout all-around effort, tallying 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, and a remarkable seven steals. Her sister, Elsa Retzlaff, also shone brightly with 15 points and six steals. Ella Knutson chipped in 13 points, six assists, and seven steals, orchestrating the offense with poise and precision. Kate Olstad posted 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Ruby Peterson added her steady presence—11 points and three assists—providing consistent two-way play. Rounding out the scoring, Aaveah Stender contributed seven points, and Emme Berge added two points and five rebounds.
“Ella and Elin both had nice all-around games,” Coach Clark noted. “Ruby continues to be so solid for us on both ends of the floor.” It was a genuine team effort; every player embraced her role and played with visible joy and determination. As the Comets continue to gel as a unit, their diligence, commitment, and discipline remain front and center.
