Comets Soar in Decisive Win Over Trojans

Hillcrest showcased their growing prowess on both sides of the ball in a decisive 56-26 victory over the Ortonville Trojans on September 6th. From the first quarter, the Comets asserted control, stringing together a powerful offensive game led by Ethan Swedberg while the defense held firm with key interceptions and relentless pressure.

Ethan Swedberg put on a rushing clinic, racking up five rushing touchdowns and finishing with 93 yards on 11 carries. He set the tone early in the first quarter with a 3-yard rushing touchdown, which was quickly followed by a successful conversion. Swedberg's ability to break through the Trojan defense kept the Comets' momentum high as he added four more touchdowns, including a 33-yard dash that left defenders in the dust.

Swedberg wasn’t just a force on the ground—he displayed his versatility with 162 passing yards, connecting for two key touchdown passes, including a 48-yard bomb to Isaac Blaskowski in the second quarter.

The Comets' defense stepped up in crucial moments, ensuring Ortonville never had the chance to gain consistent ground. The defensive unit made a statement with two interceptions that stifled Trojan drives and flipped the momentum in favor of Hillcrest.

The first interception came courtesy of Drake Veldhouse, who stepped in front of a pass from Isaac Brown, halting a promising Ortonville drive. Later, in the third quarter, Trevor Mortenson snagged another interception, again cutting short the Trojans’ attempts to claw their way back into the game.

These turnovers proved vital, as they shut down Trojan scoring opportunities and gave the Comets additional chances to extend their lead.

While Swedberg stole the show, the Comets played purposefully and precisely together. The offense converted six third downs and was a perfect 2-for-2 on fourth down attempts. The offensive line provided consistent protection, opening lanes for the running game and allowing Swedberg to connect on big passing plays.

Despite allowing 254 passing yards, the Comets' defense consistently made stops when it mattered most, holding Ortonville to just 39 rushing yards on 17 attempts. The Comets’ ability to shut down the Trojan ground game forced Ortonville into a one-dimensional passing attack, which played right into Hillcrest's hands, especially as they racked up key interceptions.

With a dominant 56-26 win, Hillcrest has shown they’re capable of making big plays and executing a complete game plan. Hillcrest will look to build on this momentum as they continue their season, stringing together both offensive firepower and defensive prowess.
