Comets Top Battlers in Final Home Game

 

In an emotion-packed evening, the Hillcrest Comets secured a victory and celebrated community with the Battle Lake Battlers in town. The Comets celebrated their lone senior, Bayley Newby, and joined in ongoing support for the Roisum family.

The game saw the Comets shine on the court, winning all three sets with impressive scores of 25-15, 25-12, and 25-17. The Comets' stellar performance was a collective effort, with several key players standing out. Ella Knutson led the charge with one ace, nine kills, and ten digs, while Anna Brumfield contributed one ace, eight kills, and five digs. Kenzie Miller displayed exceptional serving accuracy, going 8/8 with one ace and adding seven kills and three digs to her tally. Ruby Peterson continued to showcase prowess as a setter, recording two aces, 24 set assists, five kills, and ten digs. Kaia Miller and Elsa Retzlaff also made notable contributions with their aces, kills, and digs. Chloe Walkup served flawlessly at 10/10 with two aces and secured eight digs. Kate Olstad chipped in with a vital set assist, and Maddie Miller and Bayley Newby held their ground with crucial digs.

This win was a testament to the Comets' resilience and ability to maintain focus in the face of external forces. The Battle Lake Battlers demonstrated impressive potential, suggesting a bright future on the horizon. Comet Coach Debi Foss highlighted the Battler community and commitment, saying, “Congrats to Heather Akerman on doing such a fine job at stepping into the varsity role so unexpectedly, allowing Coach Jenny to do what she needs to do. You have set a good example, worked hard, and have taught your players well.”

The Comet community joined hands with Battle Lake, hosting a “Buckets for Bradyn” three-point contest to raise funds and support for the Roisum family during Bradyn’s recovery. OTXteriors Inc. paid gate admission for all fans and donated to the Roisum family with the three-point contest where two Battlers and two Comets stepped to the court between games to compete in a charity three-point shoot out where OTXteriors donated $100 per made three-pointer.

As the regular season ended, the Comets can reflect on a season filled with highs and lows. The team's ability to overcome adversity and come together, both on and off the court.

Looking ahead, the JV Team is set to participate in a conference tournament in Parkers Prairie to close their regular season. The Junior High teams concluded their season on a high note, thanks to the hard work and dedication of Coaches Cathy and Natalie. Their tireless efforts have helped nurture the next generation of Comets, and the entire Hillcrest community is immensely grateful. The Comet Varsity and JV will close their regular season on Tuesday at Underwood.
