Comets Sail with 3 Goals on 15 Shots, Defending 4 Against the Green Wave

In a rematch of an early season defeat, the HLA Boys Soccer Team showed their growth and improvement over the season as they triumphed over the East Grand Forks Green Wave, clinching a decisive 3-0 victory on their home turf.

The first half of the match was a deadlock, with neither team managing to put the ball in the net. Hillcrest spent the most time on the Green Wave end, creating pressure for a defense that remained locked down.

With the start of the second half came a renewed push from the Comets. Senior Captain Matthew Knutson emerged as the catalyst for scoring. Knutson seized control of the ball at midfield and executed a pinpoint pass to fellow Senior Captain Abram Ness. Ness capitalized on the opportunity, deftly navigating past the Green Wave defense to secure a crucial goal. Just six minutes later, Ness found himself at the center of action again, this time delivering a precise free kick that was met by the head of Matthew Knutson. The ball reached Zane Holmquist, who executed a scissor kick, sending the ball soaring into the back of the Green Wave net.

The Comets were not finished with a 2-0 lead. Zane Holmquist netted his second goal of the match at the 65-minute mark, courtesy of an assist from Otavio Roseira. With this final goal, the Comets solidified their lead, ending the match with a commanding 3-0 advantage.

The Comets relentlessly pressed their offensive throughout the game, launching an impressive total of 15 shots toward the Green Wave net. Hillcrest’s defense, anchored by Freshman Keeper Franki Renner, shone brightly, only defending four shots, preserving a clean sheet for the Comets. Renner's remarkable performance marked his third shutout of the season.

With this impressive win, the Comets now hold a season record of 7-5-1, setting the stage for their upcoming clash with Pelican Rapids on Saturday at 2 PM.
