Hillcrest Comets Showcase Determination in Thrilling Comeback

Comet Football put on a show of exceptional determination and grit in the season opener in Fosston. Despite trailing behind 37-6 in the first half, the Comets refused to back down, mounting a remarkable comeback in the second half. Though the final score ended in Fosston's favor, 45-36, the Comets' spirited efforts demonstrated the team's character and promise for future on-field success.

The Comets' unwavering resolve became apparent during the second half when they narrowed the lead to 37-36 with over eight minutes left on the clock. However, the turning point came when the Greyhounds embarked on a 13-play, 67-yard scoring drive that sealed their victory.

Ethan Swedberg played a pivotal role for the Comets under center. He completed an impressive 25 of 39 pass attempts for 277 yards and notching five touchdowns. One of Swedberg's primary targets, Gabe Swedenburg, hauled in 11 receptions for 135 yards and contributed four scores, while Thor Ewan was the leading rusher, amassing 76 yards on 16 carries.

Hillcrest's offense delivered with a total of 349 yards, but Fosston showcased their prowess with a whopping 473 total yards, including an impressive 305 rushing yards. Gavvin Gray carried the ball 24 times and accumulated 210 yards, while Jakob Rudie had 21 carries for 103 yards and four touchdowns. Rudie also showcased his versatility by completing 5-of-13 passes for 168 yards, with Ryne Duppong leading the receiving end with three catches for 85 yards.

Despite the intense competition, both teams showed discipline with just one turnover each, with Xander Knutson making a crucial interception for the Comets.
