Hillcrest Soars to Win On Tenacity and Timely Buckets in the Final Minute

The Comets delivered a thrilling performance on their home court, outlasting the Brandon-Evansville Chargers in a nail-biting 59-56 victory. This marks the Comets' third straight win, boosting their record to 3-1 and proving their mettle under pressure.

It was a game of grit and strategy, with the Comets wearing down the Chargers through relentless defensive pressure and a masterful substitution strategy that kept fresh legs on the court. The Comets' stamina and tactical depth shone through as the seconds ticked away, sealing a win that left the crowd on the edge of their seats.

Zane Holmquist led the charge with 14 points, including a critical 2-point basket in the waning moments of the game that shifted momentum in the Comets’ favor. Lincoln Nash added 10 points and showed nerves of steel, sinking two clutch free throws to extend the lead to three points with just 15 seconds remaining. Sean Berge matched Nash’s total with 10 points, adding to the team's collective firepower.

"I was incredibly proud of our team effort tonight," head coach Donavan Rogness said. "We faced adversity against a tough and well-coached opponent in Brandon-Evansville. At halftime, we were down by four and knew we needed to tighten things up after a sloppy first half with 10 turnovers and some foul trouble. The way we executed and cleaned up our play in the second half made all the difference."

The Comets displayed resilience and discipline, outscoring the Chargers by seven points in the second half. Their defensive tenacity and ability to execute under pressure proved to be the deciding factors in a game that was as much a mental battle as a physical one.

Next up, the Comets hit the road on Thursday for a high-stakes section matchup against a formidable Ada-Borup-West team. With momentum and confidence soaring, the Comets are ready to keep their winning streak alive.
