Comets Volleyball: Dominating the Details in Victory

Hillcrest Comets Volleyball took to the court against Lake Park Audubon in a conference matchup on September 23rd, 2024, and ended with an impressive sweep, winning 25-15, 25-21, and 25-13. Head Coach Debi Foss highlighted the team’s continued focus on hard work and attention to detail, evident in every set as the Comets showcased their strength and unity.

The second set saw the Lake Park Audubon Raiders put up an intense fight, challenging Hillcrest’s defense and offensive rhythm. Coach Foss commended the Raiders for their scrappy play and ability to chase down difficult balls. However, the Comets’ well-rounded performance and teamwork rose to the occasion. Each player contributed significantly, with balanced hitting and defensive intensity.

Ruby Peterson orchestrated the offense with 37 set assists and added 15 digs, showing her all-around game. She also went 26 for 27 from the service line, contributing 21 serving points, including a 14-point serving run in the third set that helped seal the match. Kenzie Miller stood out with 12 kills and perfect serving, going seven-for-seven.

Emily Adams and Elsa Retzlaff delivered strong performances both offensively and defensively. Adams finished with eight kills, nine digs, and three set assists, while Retzlaff had a team-leading 20 digs and added 10 kills to keep the Comets’ attack balanced and difficult for the Raiders to defend.

Ella Knutson contributed significantly with eight kills and 11 digs, while Kaia Miller added five kills and seven digs to keep the team’s defense strong. Maddie Miller's ace serve and consistent play added another spark to the lineup.

Though Hillcrest’s serving percentage dipped slightly, with Kenzie Miller being the only player with 100% serving accuracy, the team’s ability to rise and perform in key moments made the difference. Each player’s contribution was vital, and their dedication to preparation and discipline shone through, helping the Comets claim another conference victory.

Next up for Hillcrest is another conference matchup on the road against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Thursday, where they will continue to build on their momentum and teamwork.
