Comets Fall As Team Continues to Gel in Tough Matches

The Hillcrest Comets boys’ soccer team, while falling to an athletic and aggressive Crookston Pirates squad 1-5 on Tuesday, showed flashes of potential and growth that are promising for their young roster. The team, still finding its rhythm on the field, is gaining invaluable experience not just in competition but through their development in the classroom. This maturation, both on and off the field, will guide the Comets to greater success as the season progresses.

Despite the scoreline, the Comets continued to display moments of dominance, outshooting the Pirates with 11 shots on goal compared to their opponents' seven. Freshman Charlie Eggiman and Zane Holmquist connected beautifully early in the match, with Holmquist finishing from the 18-yard line to tie the game briefly. However, the Pirates responded quickly, capitalizing on defensive gaps.

As the Comets' defense becomes more cohesive and familiar with each other, they’ll begin to shift the scoreline in their favor. The team has shown they can compete, creating scoring opportunities and displaying resilience.

Comet Coach Rod Jensen praised the efforts of Lincoln Nash, Drew Fischer, and Captain Kian Stender.

The Comets, now 2-3, will look to build on these lessons and take on St. John’s at home this Friday at 4 PM at DeLagoon.

In JV action, the Comets secured a 3-2 win with goals from Davi Diniz and Will Selvig, further highlighting the depth and promise of the program.
