Comets Prepared to Lead with Comets for Life Program
Teaching students about the pro-life cause holds immense significance. Beyond the immediate moral and ethical considerations, this education equips them with tools to become responsible and compassionate citizens who honor and respect life at all stages. These are some of the many benefits of participating in Hillcrest’s Comets for Life program.
The foundation of Biblical reasoning in the pro-life arguments provides a platform to understand practical experiences and policies that highlight the dignity and value of life, and the core tenets of these objectives are found in the pro-life argument. At Hillcrest, students receive teachings that define life and dignity, build an understanding of how that plays out in the world, and then exercise sharing the logic and core tenets of a life-affirming and dignity-expressing society.
Last week a number of Hillcrest students practiced a small but significant display of what they’re learning in class by traveling to a clinic that practices abortions and spent time praying and expressing their views publicly.
From the classroom, students learn the logic and truths embedded in the sanctity of life ideas and are then challenged to present truth and understanding in important cultural moments. A significant cultural moment surrounding the issue of life and dignity is bound up in the current abortion debate. Students who participated in the routine visit to the abortion clinic to pray and express their understanding of the truth and logic of life and dignity built muscles and a rhythm to actively communicate what they’re learning and what their convictions are to participate in and encourage a life-giving society.
The pro-life cause extends far beyond advocating for the preborn. It includes protecting the lives of those who are infirmed, disabled, or in their senior years. Teaching students about this broader perspective encourages them to advocate for the marginalized and vulnerable in society. Just as classical education equips them with critical thinking skills, it also instills a sense of responsibility to champion the rights and dignity of all, regardless of their stage in life or physical condition.
At Hillcrest Academy, we recognize the vital role of equipping our students with the tools to defend the sanctity of life. We integrate the classical education model with a Biblical foundation in a mentorship approach to learning. Through classroom instruction and opportunities to practice communication of their ideas publicly, we empower our students to articulate their pro-life beliefs with conviction and compassion.
Teaching high school students about the pro-life cause is not just about shaping their views on one contentious issue but about nurturing the qualities that make them responsible, compassionate, and ethical in participating in this cultural moment. By preparing students to respect and honor life at all stages, we mold them into future leaders who will work tirelessly to protect and champion the rights and dignity of every individual.
