Comets Rise to Down Arrow in 3 Sets

As the sun dipped below the horizon in Ashby last night, the Comets and Ashby Arrows prepared on the volleyball court. The gym buzzed with anticipation, and the stage was set for a Litte 8 Conference showdown.

The Comets had a clear strategy for the night – stay disciplined and maintain unwavering focus. Coach Debi Foss instilled the importance of executing their game plan, and now the Comets took to the court with instructions, training, and confidence.

The first set saw the Comets take the Arrows by surprise. The scoreboard quickly flashed 25-11, with the first set favoring of the Comets. Lessons learned thus far in the season were taking hold and renewed focus paid off. The Comets looked like a well-oiled machine again.

As the second set got underway, the Comets showed no signs of slowing down. With Emily Adams leading the charge, they dominated the court with impeccable serving and precise kills. The scoreboard read 25-12, as the Arrows struggled to keep pace with the relentless Comets.

The third set unfolded with the same intensity as the first two. The Comets were determined to finish strong. Ella Knutson's incredible serving and Elsa Retzlaf's remarkable kills highlighted their commitment to team and individual growth. The final set ended with the Comets closing the match, 25-10.

Coach Foss was proud of the team after the game. "Tonight our plan was to stay disciplined and stay focused against the Ashby Arrows, and I believe we accomplished that goal. We also had some team and individual things we were working on which also showed growth. Even though our serving percentage was only 88%, our ace serves were drastically improved. The girls performed well tonight, and I'm happy with the way we bounced back from Tuesday."

The standout performances of the night spoke volumes about the Comets' dedication. Emily Adams boasted an impressive stat line of 13/16 serving, 13 serving points, seven aces, seven kills, and one block kill. Kenzie Miller's precision on the court was undeniable, with 17/19 serving, five aces, 16 serving points, six kills, three digs, and two block kills. Ella Knutson showcased her versatility with 7/9 serving, six serving points, four kills, nine digs, and two block kills. Elsa Retzlaf recorded 2/2 serving, four kills, two digs, and two block kills.

The Comets' next challenge looms on the horizon as they prepare to face Park Christian next Tuesday at Hillcrest.
