Comets Soar on Senior Night as Peterson and Olstad Lead the Charge
From the opening tip, Hillcrest played with energy and determination, jumping to a 40-21 halftime lead and never looking back. It was a fitting way to honor Ruby Peterson and Kate Olstad, two players foundational to the program’s success as they led their team to secure a 69-50 victory over Parkers Prairie Thursday night.
Peterson capped off the night with an all-around masterclass, posting an impressive triple-double: 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals, along with six assists. Her ability to impact every facet of the game set the tone for the Comets, as she constantly created opportunities for her teammates while disrupting Parkers Prairie’s offensive flow.
"Ruby had another great all-around game," head coach Hannah Clark said. "She brings so much to this team, not just in how she plays but in how she leads. It was really special to see her perform like this on Senior Night."
Olstad, known for her relentless work on the boards, showcased her trademark toughness, grabbing nine rebounds and contributing two points in key moments. Her presence in the paint made a significant impact, ensuring second-chance opportunities for the Comets while limiting Parkers Prairie’s inside game.
"Kate continues to be a force on the boards," Clark added. "Her toughness and hustle provide a big spark for our team. She’s been an incredible leader, and it’s great to see her go out with a win like this."
While the seniors set the tone, the Comets’ depth was on full display. Elin Retzlaff poured in 15 points, adding six rebounds and five assists, while her sister, Elsa Retzlaff, chipped in 14 points and four assists. Aaveah Stender brought strength inside with 8 points and six rebounds, and Stella Moline, Emme Berge, and Brooke Swedberg all made key contributions to round out a complete team performance.
As the regular season nears its conclusion, Hillcrest’s performance on Senior Night showcased the very qualities that have propelled the team forward—leadership, teamwork, and an unwavering commitment to playing for one another.
"Tonight was all about celebrating our seniors and what they mean to this program," Clark said. "Ruby and Kate have led this team wonderfully, and I’m proud of how the girls came together to get this win for them."
With momentum on their side and a strong team dynamic fueling their play, the Comets are poised to make a deep postseason run—one that will be led by the legacy of two outstanding seniors who have set the bar high for future Hillcrest teams.
