Comets Tighten Defense in Second Half, Soaring to 28 point win

The Hillcrest Comets displayed resilience and strategic prowess in their recent matchup, clinching a significant 64-36 victory in the Little Eight Conference against Battle Lake. Despite facing challenges the past seven days with some tough matchups and a loss in Park Christian, the Comets demonstrated their potential for a strong push to playoffs in the win in Battle Lake.

Head Coach Ryan Garvin commended the team's performance while recognizing areas for improvement. "Tonight was a solid win for our boys… We need to tighten up on containment, especially in situations like allowing Braxtyn Cameron to net 18 points from the perimeter. Moreover, we have to be more assertive in preventing offensive rebounds," Garvin stated.

The second half showcased Hillcrest's determination as they amplified their full-court aggression, significantly limiting Battle Lake to a mere 14 points. Garvin highlighted this assertiveness as a pivotal factor in the game's outcome.

Offensively, the Comets demonstrated versatility and strategic execution. "Our handling of Battle Lake's zone was commendable. The team's ability to find and exploit openings in the defense was impressive, with notable contributions from players like Lincoln Nash and Noah Bjorndahl, who made impactful plays and cuts towards the basket," Garvin reflected.

Standout performances included Noah Brumfield's commanding 21 points, with 12 scored in the gripping second half, and Luke Christensen's pivotal 12 points in the initial half.

Acknowledging the opponent's setback with Jack Mekalson's absence, Garvin noted, "Battle wasn't at full strength tonight, which certainly affected their game. However, our focus remains on leveraging every game to build our strength and cohesiveness as a team."

With a commendable 10-2 record and a spotless 7-0 in the LEC, the Hillcrest Comets are gearing up for their next confrontation against Brandon-Evansville at the esteemed Target Center. This game poses another opportunity for the Comets to refine their strategies and solidify their position as formidable contenders in the league.
