Knutson Named to All-tournament Team as Comet Girls Celebrate Milestones and Look Ahead to 2024

As 2023 draws to a close, the Hillcrest Comets Girls Basketball team has much to celebrate. Their latest victory against Climax-Fisher, with a commanding score of 68-54, not only marks a significant milestone but also sets the tone for an exciting 2024. The team's success can be attributed to their strategic play and exceptional teamwork, central to their winning formula.

Under Head Coach Hannah Clark’s supportive leadership, the Comets have been playing what can only be described as 'complimentary basketball’. Their recent game is a testament to this approach, with players executing the strategy flawlessly and contributing across the board.

Ella Knutson led the charge against Climax-Fisher, with an impressive 28 points and 12 rebounds, showcasing her all-around abilities. Her performance was pivotal in containing CF's star player Peyton Hoffman, to just 4 points in the first half. Knutson's excellence was rightly acknowledged as she was named to the all-tournament team.

Elsa Retzlaff added 14 points, three rebounds, steals, and assists each, showing her versatility on the court. Aaveah Stender and Ruby Peterson also made significant contributions, with Peterson particularly notable for her role in directing the team on both ends of the floor throughout the tournament.

Chloe Walkup's role off the bench was crucial. Described by Coach Clark as a spark for the team, her performance highlighted the depth and versatility of the Comets' roster.

Coach Clark praised the team's aggressive play and hustle for loose balls, especially after a challenging game the previous night. This resilience and ability to bounce back underscore the team's mental toughness and dedication.

As the Comets turn the page on the calendar, they build confidence in their strategy and team dynamics into the new year. The emphasis on playing complimentary basketball, where each player's strengths are utilized and weaknesses covered, is a formula that promises more success in the upcoming year.
